Ensure that the battery is being charged with a charger After installing a new battery my car will not do anything when you crank it over.

Now the check engine light is on and it will not do anything.

Car won't start new battery no lights. Plenty of battery, but car won't start. Car was running just fine but my battery started getting weak so i replaced it. Tap both cables together ;

But, it's as though the wrong key is being used. All of my lights are functioning just fine and dash lights work as well. This is the likely cause if all other lights work but your car does not click.

A loose battery terminal will allow the car lights, ignition, and instrument cluster to turn on, but a weak connection at the battery post won’t allow you to start the engine. It must be between 13.75 and 14.75 volts. Do not push the meter probes into the connector, just touch the pins.

Another sign of your “car won’t start, but lights come on” issue is that you have to jiggle the key to start the car. If these contacts become corroded or extremely worn, they may not get the job done. Check the photos in my previous post for a visual.

If the battery is original is should be replaced in any case. In a typical system, the starter relay receives a signal from the ignition switch to connect battery power to the starter motor. If it is low, the battery will never fully charge.

If the headlights come on, if they work, it means that the battery has power, so the problem could be with the ignition switch or the wiring between the ignition switch and the battery. If you realize that you have a new battery, but your car won’t start, this could be due to improper battery installation. Disconnect both battery cables ;

If the battery voltage tests good, disconnect the battery for awhile and reconnect and recheck the operation. Afterwards, the starter wasn't engaging at all. A car that won't start can be caused by many different problems from low fuel pressure to no spark.

Remove the battery cables, and use a knife, file, or sandpaper to remove the corrosion from the inside of the battery cable terminal loops, and sand the battery posts shiny. Inside the relay, a set of electrical contacts allows current to flow to the starter solenoid. If you do have a voltmeter, measure the battery voltage with the engine running.

I turned the key, it clicked twice and then started. If you switch on the ignition and no indicator lights on the instrument panel, it means that there is no power coming from the battery. If you replace your car battery and the vehicle still won’t start, there are a number of different things that might have gone wrong.

If the vehicle starts when you turn on the engine, you might need to check the cables on the new battery to prevent the “new battery car won’t start no lights” situation. This is the switch you turn in the key or it could be part of it that is connected to that mechanism in the steering wheel. It's pretty easy to confirm, just figure out where it is located in your engine, it's usually the first fuse box after the battery, and the actual fuse is secured with a screw or two because it's the main connection between the battery and the rest of your car.

We listed most common issues and how to fix them. The reason why the radio, dash lights, headlights, and other electronics draw power while the engine doesn't has to do with the amount of current each device draws and what may be interrupting the path. It’s possible that the battery you connected is not compatible with your car’s system,.

(it's the right key, and i've tried the others that i. Broadly, if the immobilizer is off, and the battery is fully charged, either the starter motor/solenoid assembly is faulty or the electrical circuit supplying the motor has a fault. If the light dim considerably, your ignition switch is ok.

Check out common car parts when seeking car part replacements. To fix this problem, check the battery cables to make sure they are not loose. Be sure any engine immobilizer system (security system) is not activated, thus preventing the car from starting.

The double clicking and the start and now fail to start says that the connection between battery. The battery terminal may be loose. You may hear a click or two, but that is it.

If this doesn’t yield results, then you can try this alternative method to get your key to reprogram itself: To troubleshoot this, turn on all your lights, try to start the car. If your car won’t start but the lights and radio work fine, it could be one of several problems, possibly including a dead battery.

First, the starter can crank, but the car will not start. First, it’s possible that you either failed to connect the battery properly, or that you didn’t connect the right battery unit. If your new car battery still won’t start, read the following for a breakdown of the most common reasons this might be happening.

It could be a dead battery or often a bad ignition switch. Clicking noise, but won’t start. I blew fuse 46 20a in the smart junction box.

Leave the cables disconnected for fifteen minutes ; Simply buy a new battery. Charge the battery for 20 minuets.

If the voltage is okay, the second half of the test requires a professional load tester. Reconnect the cables to the battery ; This is usually due to battery failure, poor connections, damaged battery terminals, or a dead battery.

If the voltage is below 12.6 volts with the key off then charge the battery and recheck. If the battery ground was disconnected you could get the same effect as you just saw (no lights with battery but lights with charger). Lights come on fine, bells ring, etc.
